Before You Begin
Create Data Fields in Ganttic
If you want to import Resource Data Field values, then make sure the fields are created in Ganttic first. Otherwise, the columns with titles/headers will not show up in the Template CSV file.
Importing Resource Data
- Click on the + icon at the top left and select Import - found at the bottom of the drop-down list. The Data Import section will open.
- Select a Resource Template.
- Hit download template.
- Open the Template in Excel or Google Sheets. Make sure this is done via a new sheet, then File > Import. This will make sure the data separators are in place.
- On the template, you’ll see Resource title columns labeled Res_Title_N. Fill in the cells below with your Resource names.
NB! If a Resource already exists in Ganttic with the title you enter to the import, the data will be overwritten with the data from the import. - After you’re done adding the data into the Template, make sure to save it as a CSV file (File > Save As > CSV).
Importing Resource Data Field Values
Resource Data Fields have to be created before downloading the Template. Also ensure there’s at least one Resource in your planner. Otherwise it is not possible to import Resource Data Fields.
- To import Resource Data Field values, click the add custom data field columns box from the Data Import Template. Do this while uploading Resources or later if you wish.
NB! It is not possible to import Link or User type Data Fields. - On the Template you’ll see columns labeled Res_N_Data(Title of the Data Field). Fill in the cells with your Data Field values. Copy-paste from another file or application. All the column Data Field titles are case-sensitive.
- Save the file as CSV (File > Save As > CSV) when finished.
NB! Importing Data Field values will overwrite any Data Fields values already in the planner.
Example of importing Resources and some Resource Data Field values:
Uploading the CSV File
If you're done filling in your data, save the file in CSV format (with UTF-8 character encoding) and head back to Ganttic's Data import section.
- Select the CSV separator. This is the symbol used to separate column values in plain text format Make sure it matches the separator used in the CSV Template.
- Click on Browse to select your CSV file. Make sure the data is formatted correctly, otherwise the import won't start.
- Click on Import data. Your data will be imported.
Troubleshooting the CSV Import
Here’s a few common errors that may occur while importing your CSV template into Ganttic. As well as what they mean and how to fix them.
Field Missing
All imported Data Fields must be created before downloading the template. If they don't exist in the planner upon import, the below error will appear.
Before the import, create a List-type Data Field, for example, “Shoe size.” Then use the data import to upload the actual values using your CSV file.
Invalid Date Formatting
Update your date value in the line mentioned to match this format: yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm.
Please pay attention and use the exact same symbols between the dates. For example, 2023-05-05 15:00!
Partial Success
Please note that the Resource Title has to be added to each row. If everything else is correct in the CSV file the import will still go through, but the rows where the Resource Title was missing will not be added. The text will tell you how many of your Resources were read and how many were actually added during the upload process.
Double check that your Resource Title column is completely filled out. Resources must have a name to be imported.
