There are a myriad of reasons why you need to reschedule or postpone a Project. In Ganttic, it's possible to shift all of the Tasks and Milestones connected to a Project back or forth on the Timeline. Find out how!
Must Know
- All Owners, Admins and Users with Edit or Add/Edit Project Rights can copy a Project.
- This feature can only be accessed from a Single Project View.
- You can shift the entire Project along with its Tasks and Milestones.
- You can also shift only a part of the Project - where some Tasks are postponed while others remain the same.
- Once the shift has been done it cannot be reverted automatically, but you can do it manually Task by Task.
Shifting the Entire Project
- Open a Single Project View of the Project you want to shift. Access this from the Project List or Kanban Board by clicking this icon next to the Project’s Name.
- In a Single Project View, click the Shift project icon. This will open the Shifting options dialog
- Under Select the Shift type - choose Shift all the tasks and the milestones
- Click on the Calendar icon on the right and select a new Start Date for the Project - this is the Start Date of the Project’s first Task.
- If the Project has Milestones (Date-type Project Data Fields) then you can choose these date values as the start or end dates and change the dates from the calendar below. If this isn’t updated, the milestone may not be correct!
NB! All the tasks and milestones affected by the shift will be moved on the timeline by the same number of days. - Click the Shift project button at the top.
- Click OK to confirm in the pop up window.
- Your Project is now moved to the new date on the timeline.
Shift a Part of the Project
- Open a Single Project View of the Project you want to partially shift.
- When the Single Project View is opened, Click the Shift project icon. This will open the Shifting options dialog.
- Under Select the Shift type - choose Shift a part of the project. This will activate the split-shift options on the right.
- Click on the Calendar icon to choose a split date. The split time is always at 00:00/12:00 on the selected date.
- Decide if you’d like to shift the tasks and milestones Before or After the split. "After the split time" option will shift all Tasks and Milestones after the selected split date. All items before the split date will remain in their original dates.
- Select what happens to the Tasks and Milestones that overlap with the split time. There’s 4 options:
- Split tasks will split overlapping tasks.
- Extend tasks will simply make the overlapping task longer.
- Shift tasks unchanged will move the Task without splitting or extending it.
- Do not shift tasks will keep the overlapping Tasks on the same dates.
- Click the Shift project button at the top.
- Click OK to confirm in the pop up window.
- Your Project is now moved to the new date on the timeline.

Project delays are inevitable. Most commonly it's due to Resource constraints or complications with the budget.
