Sorting is the order that your Resources and Tasks are ordered and displayed in a Single Project View. Sorting can be combined with Grouping for even more organization options. Discover how to use Ganttic’s Sorting feature in your Single Project Views.
Must Know
- All Owners, Admins and Users with Add/edit Resource Task rights for that Project can use Sorting.
- Sorting options applied either temporarily or permanently are User-specific - so each User can apply their own favorite way to Sort.
- Resource Groups must first be applied for the View in order to Sort via Resource Groups.
- Sorting options include: Name (A-Z), Resource availability, Resource Data Field values, Task start and end dates, or a custom order.
Sorting in a View
- Choose a Project from the Project List to open as a Single Project View.
- Click the Sorting icon. A dialog will open.
- When no Grouping is applied for Resources, you’ll see the following Sorting options for Resources and Tasks.
- Custom order - the order that the Resources appear in the Resource List.
TIP! Drag and drop them on the Resource List to get them in the right order. - Title/Name - the name of Resource, putting them in alphabetical order (A-Z or Z-A).
- Availability - in ascending or descending order of their utilization.
- Start date - the day the Task is set to begin
- End date - the day the Task is set to finish
- Title/Name - the name of the Task, putting them in alphabetical order.
- Custom order - the order that the Resources appear in the Resource List.
- Click the Sorting option you prefer. Click again to invert it.
NB! Sorting options applied are User-specific as they aren't reflected for other Users working with the View.
Sorting Resource and Task Groups
Sorting can also be applied to Resource and Task Groups. Meaning you can determine the order of the Resources according to their location, type, status, etc. Whatever Resource or Task Data Fields you have enabled.
To do this, first apply your desired Grouping to that View.
- In a Single Project View, click on Resource Grouping.
- Apply how you want the Resources Grouped. Use custom groups created via Resource Data Fields.
NB! Only List and Check Type Data Fields may be used. - Apply and Save and return to your View.
- Open Sorting. Select how the Resource Groups are displayed on the Gantt chart.
- Custom order - An order decided by the user. Configure this by opening that Data Field’s dialog and dragging and dropping the values to the desired order.
- Title/Name - the name of value, putting them in alphabetical order.
- Custom order - An order decided by the user. Configure this by opening that Data Field’s dialog and dragging and dropping the values to the desired order.
- The Resources within each Grouping can also be Sorted.
- Hit Apply to see your View temporarily Sorted, or Apply and Save to make it the permanent option for that View. Sorting options applied are User-specific as they aren't reflected for other Users working with the View.
- Return to the View to see your Resources according to your choices.
